Womens Day Celebrated In Different Countries

With this year's theme “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, International Women's Day is a day to promote women's rights and achievements.

Nowadays, the annual International Women's Day on the 8th of March is celebrated in every corner of the world. It is celebrated in different ways and cultural traditions. From Italy to Poland, below you will find how different countries celebrate this day.

Italy

International Women's Day is also known as La Festa Della Donna in Italy.

This day is believed originated in Rome and became popular after the Second World War, when the yellow mimosa flower was chosen as a symbol of International Women's Day and female strength.

On this day, mimosa flowers are sold throughout Italy and it is traditional for men to gift mimosa blossoms to women in their lives. This kind of flower holds a similar symbolic gesture of love as red roses on Valentine's Day.

Women in Italy are often given discounts and encouraged to celebrate this day indulging in wine and flowers on this day.

China

Since 1949, International Women's Day is celebrated in China by expressing love towards women with gifts and special treatment.

China also celebrates Girl's Day on March 7, which is specially designated for female students.

In order to thank the contributions to families, society, and country from women, female employees are officially entitled to a half-day off work on this day. Additionally, men are encouraged to treat women with presents, flowers, and more on this day.

Poland

Similar to many other countries, Poland also celebrates International Women's Day on the 8th of March every year. It is a day of promoting the image of women.

The tradition of giving Polish ladies gifts or flowers has continued to this day.

Over the past years, it was an obligatory holiday when women would receive carnations and surprising gifts. Today, the typical gift for women in Poland has been changed to tulips. They can receive a symbolic tulip when they meet men on this day.
